School Grounds

We are very lucky to have extensive school grounds in which the children play and learn.

The Early Years children have their own outdoor space where they can run around, ride their bikes and scooters, as well as have fun in the sand pit and can enjoy water play. They can also climb and build things and even cook up a feast in the mud kitchen.  They have an array of resources to enjoy including their very own Maths Shed and Writing Shed.  Open ended resources allow endless opportunities for imagination and creativity.  The children are encouraged to use the outdoor area in all weathers using waterproofs and wellies and making use of the canopy.

The children in KS1 have their own yard to play in alongside a picnic area to use when the sun shines and the children in KS2 also have their own yard to run around and enjoy.

We have a large playing field which the children can use for all sorts of things in fine whether and another adventure playing area to climb around on and enjoy.

The children enjoy planting and growing things in our school garden and poly tunnel.

We also have a sports track which has totally transformed our outdoor space. It’s quite a challenging design but it’s one of the best things that we’ve introduced in school.  Every child uses the track every day to do their ‘mile-a-day’, either running or walking, they can chat to friends on their way round or to different groups of children that they might not normally play with.  We have found that children who are less confident socially, absolutely love it as it gives them something purposeful to do outside.

The children also love to cycle around our track. We have worked hard over the last few years to embed a strong cycling culture in school, even taking some of our older children on a 100 mile ride to Amsterdam and back using pedal power! This has resulted in confidence and fitness levels soaring.  We have also noticed the positive impact this has had back in the classroom, through increased motivation and enthusiasm for learning along with some significant improvements in academic ability.
